pwnage has bricked iphone i think ?

have just tried to use pwnage tool, and it looks like it has bricked the iphone.

brand new iphone.. had 1.1.3 on it.
i restored it in itunes and put 1.1.4 on it.
ran pwnage, selected the 1.1.4 file.
put it in to recover mode.
ran ipwn

it seemed to start fine, saw the commands scrolling on the screen... a minute or so passed and then the screen went blank. it didn't reboot.

left it for a while (10 mins or so) and still nothing.

now the device will turn on but the screen is black (sometimes you can see little white lines scrolling).

can't put it into recover mode... itunes detects an iphone is connected but says it can't use to due to simlock or something.

can anyone help ?

First of all - that was easily fixed by restoring with iTunes.

EVERYTHING CAN BE RESTORED IN ITUNES...

You obviously don't have any practice and it can be tricky to get recovery mode but lots of people have had problems getting into recovery and eventually sorted it out.

You are VERY lucky that they didn't check your phone more thoroughly because they would have seen you hacked it and turned you away!

You should NEVER return a phone you messed with until people with hacking knowledge have told you its safe to.

In your case it sounds like the first stage of pwning failed and you would have had to restore and do it again - it was definately fixable!

at the end, the phone wouldn't even turn on any more... nothing on the screen even when trying to put it into restore mode.

itunes wouldn't detect it, thing was totally dead.

i know how to get it into recovery mode, i have done i many times before.
please don't assume that everyone is an idiot.

i would like to know how an O2 shop would have been able to know that a device has been played with when it wouldn't even turn on any more.

Then it was a hardware problem because the symptoms shouldn't change over time as long as the software is not changed. It does what it is told, nothing more.

Your phone was NOT dead.

This is a possible problem you can have with pwnage if you either use the wrong firmware (ie iPod firmware on your iPhone) or if the ramdisk doesn't work properly.

A DFU restore would have fixed it. The totally non-responsive screen is not an issue as that is how DFU works.. The screen would have flashed white and then iTunes would have detected it and restored it.

This has happened before so I know that for a fact - like I said it would not respond in anyway until DFU mode works and it could take several attempts but it would have worked eventually!

I mean in the end you swapped it so it doesn't matter but you took a risk there BUT I was thinking you bought it from O2 as they are clueless anyway and wouldn't be able to check it... but if you had taken it to Apple that would NOT be smart!

I agree with spinstorm. If you have a phone that is showing a black screen, it doesn't mean it is dead at all (though it might be I guess). Chances are, you just need to do a DFU restore. NB DFU mode is NOT the same as recovery mode, and involves a different process to get into it.

I've mentioned it before, but I use a freeware app called USB Monitor (and it has a shareware counterpart called Peripheral Vision). A very old app, but perfect for situations like in this thread, as every time you plug in a USB device it will show up in a bezel (like when you change volume). The best thing about this is that the iPhone tells you exactly which mode it is in (either "iPhone" normally, "iPhone (Recovery Mode)", or "DFU Device"). Plus, even if you don't see anything on screen, you should be able to see if the iPhone is talking to your Mac at least.

I'd like to know if there's any way to recover my ipod touch. I used pwnage tool and followed all the steps. I didnt realize I was using the wrong firmware and I installed the Iphone 2.0 firmware. Right now my ipod looks completely dead. It doesnt even turn on. I tried to get it to recovery mode using my mac and a laptop but it didnt work. Any ideas? thanks a lot in advance.

Put it in DFU mode and restore again, this time with the correct firmware.

(and please for the love of god, your iPod is NOT bricked! Bricked means the device is unrecoverable, beyond all available help. Yours is not.)
