I have a 3GS and would like to jailbreak it so I can install Cydia etc. I searched this forum and found blackra1n is the most easy way but youtube won't work. There should be a fix by installing "push fix" from http://cydia.iphoneil.net/ but the file is no longer availble.

So I am thinking of using PwnageTool but it needs to create a customer install IPSW. Would it a good move?

P.S. I don't need to unlock my phone i.e. I will stick with my "Apple offcial carrier".

Thanks.

If you're going to use it on an official carrier then you wont have any problems with push, youtube or anything since it will be activated officially and not hactivated.
Just run blackrain and in less than a minute you're done.

I personally prefer blackrain. It's so simple and it just seems easier to have the real ipsw than to have pwnage's created one. But it's a personal preference, you'll be fine either way :)

I prefer PwnageTool, but it's mainly personal preference. I have heard anecdotally of more issues with blackra1ned phones, but that may be because there are more of them. If you have the 4.26.08 baseband, I would definitely go with PwnageTool even if you think you will never need to unlock. It keeps your options open.

I see you plan to use an official carrier, but with regards to push, the DevTeam has posted a "beta" of a new push fix for hacktivated phones.

For info only..... DevTeam Push fix beta

I have not tried this as I also use an official carrier.

i used pwnage tool and used blackra1n on my girlfriends phone. blackra1n is def alot easier.

This is also a good Push Fix (apt.macosmovil.com) it worked for me and Youtube now Works

I would say use Blackra1n:cool:

I tried both but they both did not work :-(

BlackRa1n
------------
The installation went well but when I turned the phone off and back on, it sticks in the recovery mode (the phone shows the iTunes icon and a USB cable).

PwnageTool
-------------
I created the custom install IPSW files. I used iTunes to restore the phone with that IPSW. After the phone reboots, Itunes prompts the phone is in recovery mode.

Please kindly help.

Thanks. So this is a issue that not related to the way I JB (PwnageTool / Blackra1n) the phone?

May be I need to avoid powering off the phone?
