I own a iphone 3G, which I bought in Sinagpore last year, factory unlocked, week 35, running 3.1.2.

I have read numerous posts here and there regarding which option is best to JB my iphone 3G.

The consensus is, blackra1n is simple and easy but Pwnage seems to be the preferred choice, though people report problems using either option.

Being cautious, I am opting to go with Pwnage. However, I have a few lingering questions before I proceed.

1. I predominantly use PC to update my ipod, and iphone. but I do own a mac mini, and it's pretty old, without the Intel processor. Would this still work or do I need a newer mac with an Intel chip to do the job?

2. My phone came unlocked. If I JB using either blackra1n or Pwnage, will my baseband get updated? or will it remain unlocked?

3. After reading many posts, I Am fairlly sure that tethered and non-tethered issue only applies to 3GS phones.that I Dont have to worry about rebooting my phone since my phone is non-refurbished and week 35. Am I correct?

thanks in advance

I can answer 2 and 3.

2. A factory unlocked phone stays unlocked even with baseband updates. The unlock is maintained via iTunes which queries the Apple server to find out that your phone is authorised to be unlocked.

3. You're correct, tethered jailbreaks are only a 3GS problem, yours is not affected.

I've heard that the new version of PwnageTool only works on Intel-based Macs. I don't have a PPC-based Mac, so I can't test it myself, but a quick Google search shows threads full of people with problems crashing halfway through .ipsw creation.
