So I tried iPwner with a new iPhone I got today as part of a warranty replacement. Now I've got a phone with a blank black screen that I can't seem to fix.

When I try to restore and tell iTunes to use a new 1.1.4.ipsw that I downloaded, I get an error that says "iPod cannot be restored due to unknown error."

AHHHHH now I'm really worried. I just want to get back to factory virgin 1.1.4 state. I have a legit AT&T contract and after this experience don't really want to risk it anymore. PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance.

What exactly did you do to get it into this state? Did you disturb the pwning process at any time?

What happens when you hold down the power button for 10 seconds? You should also try holding down the power button and the home button together at the same time for 10 seconds.

Can you even get it into recovery mode? If you can, try re-pwning it.

You downloaded the iPod touch IPSW, not the iPhone's. It is fixable. There's someone on here that fixed it. The solution might be going into DFU mode, not just recovery mode.

'doh

Yeah looks like I accidentally got the iPod Touch firmware. Don't I feel like a noob. I managed to get it into DFU mode (even though the screen never turned white) and it finally showed up as an iPhone. I restored and updated to factory 1.1.4 and everything seems kosher.

Quite a scare though, worst I've had since I've been hacking the iPhone. Balls. I think I'll be rolling with factory 1.1.4 for a while now. Thanks for the DFU tip, that seemed to do the trick after a while.

This thread is a sticky over at Hackintosh forums and had lots of info and tips on this very issue. This info helped me out a lot.

Haha, well I'm glad everything is okay now! You should change the title of the topic.

I think in a PwnageTool update, they should sort out and stop this ability to allow iPod updates to iPhones as it messes up abit.
