Hi guys,

I just got a new 3.06 24" iMac today and its serial number is QP :) I think it is made in USA (CTO) even though I got it from the retail Apple store. This is my third iMac in two months (2nd replacement) and it is FANTASTIC  The screen is wonderful and has no problems compared to the previous two.

Is it true that it is made in USA?

It will have been assembled in the USA but the parts will (mostly) have been made in china. Glad to hear you too have got a good screen.....i'm over the moon with mine. Would you mind posting your week of manufacture. Mine is a week 20 from Czech Republic so VM820 would be interesting to see what week yours is and may help others track down a good screen.:D

It is a week 18 ... QP818

For what its worth, mine is qp817. I got mine shortly after the 8800's where released about a month ago. Haven't had any problems and as far as I can tell, no screen problems.

btw, my first post.

My 3.06 ghz 24" iMac was recently replaced by Apple due to backlight bleeding. The new one is a QP823. The bleeding is much better, but there's one dead pixel in the middle of the screen. I'm trying to learn to live with that. :(

Don't live with anything at that price....get it replaced

unfortunately, apple has some pretty specific policies on defective pixels. if i remember correctly, there needs to be somewhere around 9 pixels that are either dead or inactive for them to replace it. on the other hand, he could still argue that the bleed is still not appropriate. i don't think they have any policies on bleed-out, and they certainly don't have any policies on screen gradients.

i'm taking mine in for replacement #3 tomorrow afternoon... sooooo hoping i'll get a good screen... *fingers crossed*

You have 14 days with apple to return a unit for any reason. They are pretty good at swapping stuff as I know from personal experiance. The only products with lcd screens I have had dead pixels on are apple products, the are also strangely the most expensive. Pixel policies are there for employee's to quote.....some people may say "oh, ok.....i'll keep it if thats normal" but you don't and shouldn't have to. If you explain its for graphic work and is not suitable for that use and also that you were not advised of the likelyhood of dead pixels when you purchased the product in a polite but persistant manor you should be able to swap out a unit.

Good luck with unit 3 Darkroom......I feel you are due a decent unit.....if you can get a VM of week 20 or later I would be happy to bet it will be a winner:D

i hope they're not starting to not swap replace defective screens... if that's the case than it's certainly shows that they know about the issue and also that it's more of a global issue (instead of propelled by "just a few 'perfectionists' on internet threads")

i'll ask for a VM820 for sure. i hope they have it. it's nice reassurance that you've seen 3 from that week that were perfect. i do recall on another thread that someone had returned a VM820 because of a slight color gradient and backlight bleed, but maybe it was really a Dell employee posting :p
