Hey guys. I'm new to Mac and have a few questions about GTA

1. How is the gameplay using a trackpad instead of a mouse?

2. a. Is there any difference to downloading from appstore or from steam?
(b. will i get an additional copy for my windows pc if i use steam?)

3.Will any of the three games run well on my 2012 air 1.8/8gb?

Hi andrewmcd11,

1. Gameplay is limited with trackpad, its difficult to shoot, drive and do pretty much everything, but it is possible. I advise you buy a mouse though - nothing special, just a cheap one from Amazon or something.

2. Appstore is cheaper, so thats a good difference, and its also probably easier to use, you don't have to run the steam client. games on steam listed as steam play will let you install on both mac and pc.

3. All the games should run perfectly on your mac. the main thing is your ram and VRAM - what are your macs specs in that sense? If you live in the uk, our site, macgames.co.uk, offers all 3 in one as a trilogy. the discount code below gives you 30% off the trilogy, which makes it way cheaper than even the app store if you're interested! I believe my model has 512 of VRAM.

Do the earlier two titles (III and Vice City) run smoother than San Andreas?

512 VRAM should be plenty to run all these games well. you have double the minimum requirement, so thats always a good indication!

I found that they all seem to run pretty much the same. Since they were specifically re-written for Mac from the original PC/Xbox/PS2 versions, but several years later, apparently the graphics were upgraded, so its not like earlier ones will run faster because they have lesser graphic requirements if that makes sense. Anyway, we've never noticed any problems with game play and neither have any of our customers to date.

I would recommend you get a mouse for gaming, including the GTA series. It will be a lot more doable/enjoyable that way.

Getting the game from the Appstore is nice because you don't need to run the Steam client to launch and play your game. The Steam client works but is buggy and uses unnecessary amounts of CPU cycles and RAM currently at idle. Valve needs to fix that. That said though, I find Steam is still a great place to get games at good prices for the Mac.

ALL Mac games sold on Steam include both the Mac and Windows versions for the same single price. ALL Mac games are listed as Steamplay which means buy it once, play it on either Mac or Windows.

Apologies for high jacking your thread.

I'm thinking about ordering Vice City from the appstore but i'm not sure about gaming with a mouse as i've never gamed through a Mac or PC.

Can i hook up a PS3 controller since it uses Bluetooth tech?
