I'm considering upgrading my quad 3.2 processor (mid 2012) to a W3680, for the hex-core 3.33Ghz increase.

However, I've read some people in other forums mentioning overheating and excessive fan noise with this processor, though I'm afraid they might have not properly spread the thermal paste or something of the sort.

Any of you with a w3680 care to share your experiences?

I did the 4,1 to 5,1 EFI update, then replaced the 2.66 four core in my 2009 MP with the hex 3.33. My Mac runs at temperatures that are virtually indistinguishable from its prior incarnation, and fan speeds are no different.

Isn't the W3680 the same one as in the 2010 6x3.33? If so I have no heat or noise issues with it whatsoever in mine (factory installed from new and untouched ever since)
