Hello guys,

I am wondering if there are any rumors or news from Intel by when we could theoretically expect a Macbook Pro with a Quad Core CPU? Any ideas?

Cheers

I dont think they will add it, It wastes to much power. battery would only last 30 mins.

Sure - I am absolutley aware of the fact that there are currently NO chips. My question is by when can we expect quad core notebook chips from Intel ? 2008 ? 2009 ? 2010 ?

If Apple is putting those then in a MacBook Pro is another question.

The quad chips are coming in the second half of 2008, So I would guess that we may see one at Macworld 2009.

Didn't I read somewhere that Intel plans to develop 20+ core equivalent chipsets by 2018? If that is so, imagine what we will have by 2050.

I think that the Core race will be obsolete, along with the Megahertz race and whatever else will have happened.

There will be much better power-saving technologies, and wireless power will be ubiquitous...no more charging!

By 2050, we won't be using a computer since a meteor will strike, ice age will begin (again) and Apple will invent ways to make a fire more intuitive and revolutionary. The iFire.

According to industry source, PC laptop is targetting quad-core Penryn at high end professional laptop workstation segment. I'd assume Apple to release quad-core system for MBP as well.

Well What is the TDP difference between the Quad core processors and the Dual Core? That is on of the big things Apple sill have to look at. Unless Apple decides that 1 inch think notebook are no longer in vogue...

Fitting quad-core in 1-inch chassis is going to be a challenge. There is no official TDP data for mobile version of Penryn yet, but if we look at the Xeon variant of quad-core Penryn, the lowest TDP is 50W which clocks at 1600MHz FSB. Assuming quad-core version of mobile Penryn runs at 800MHz or 1000MHz FSB at the time of Montevina platform, the TDP will be a lot lower than 50W and feasible for quad-core MBP.

liquid cooling would be it :D

its only a matter of time. im sure we will look back at this thread when we are on our octocore ultrathin macbooks and laugh. it might be 2012, but, im sure it will happen eventually.
