All of the Intel iMacs have used notebook processors it's going to be a long time before we see a quad core notebook processor. It's possible but I would say highly unlikely considering Apple actually need to keep some distance between the consumer range and the Mac Pro.

Please search around a bit, this has been covered many many times.

The short answer is no way. Because the iMac uses mobile chips (not desktop chips), and there is no quad-core mobile processor anywhere on Intel's roadmap at the current time, we're not going to have quad-core iMacs anytime soon.

Again, there's just to much heat dissipatet from the desktop processors to work (quietly) in an iMac.

Besides the incredible power and heat that comes with it, the QX6700 alone is more expensive than the entry-level iMac. The heat is the real issue, though. If the iMac can't handle a Conroe, it definitely can't handle 2 of them on the same chip.
