I know folks who work for Apple in Cupertino, and I still don't get to hear anything before the rest of the world. An ASC stands no chance - they're kept in the dark until the last minute (i.e. until they receive product in many cases). Educated guesses do not equal inside information.

It's called the Penryn platform and we've assumed its introduction at macworld for a long time. But that doesn't mean that we're getting quad core processors.

Apple will only be making what Intel can provide. There are no plans for a quad core mobile chip for some time to come.

That is a great reason to believe. But really, no quad core notebook until at least late 2008 and that's for the 17 inch only. You heard it here first.
since when has the MBP been a desktop replacement? It's a slimline laptop. It's not getting a quad core chip. The first mainstream mobile quad core part is the Clarksfield Nehalem part, H2 '08 at the earliest.
