Hello,
I'm looking for some help regarding the Quadra (a.k.a. Centris) 660av.

[TL;DR] Can I use the PDS adapter from Q610 in Q660av?

SO, the thing is the NUBUS adapters for Q660av basically turned unobtainium these days. Recently I bought a DOS Compatible Quadra 610 and I noticed, how similar the PDS adapters in those two machines are. So this idea of transforming my Q660av into a DOS Compatible Mac came to my mind.

I was unable to confirm 100% whether I could plug the Q610 PDS adapter into my Q660av, but I've got some evidence this could be done (i. e. the Q610 adapter is compatible with the slot present on the 660av motherboard).

1. I found this: http://web.archive.org/web/19981205141116/http://www.paranoia.com/~anton/houdini/intro.html

Seems like somebody actually did this those 25 years ago, so it's a strong evidence that might just work. I plan on installing a Houdini II card instead of the Houdini I originally bundled with Q610, so I suppose any sound-related issues could be overcome.

2. https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Appl...t+with+Reply+Corporation;+First...-a015924705

i. e. Reply Corporation had plans on releasing a DOS Compatibility Card compatible with Q610 AND Q660av, which suggests their PDS slots should be compatible with each other

I mean C-O-M-E O-N, the angle adapter looks basically like Q610 PDS to 040 PDS one. And the guy claims it works fine. Still, it's Daystar branded, so there might be a slight chance it's a custom adapter that can be used only for the specific accelerator mentioned in the thread.

4. http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.739.4594&rep=rep1&type=pdf
page 46:
"The Macintosh Centris 610 computer uses an AMP type 650231-5 connector for PDS cards; the Macintosh Centris 660AV uses an AMP type 650231-3 connector. Because the corresponding pins are aligned, it is possible to design PDS cards that work on both models."

5. Again, the physical shape of a Q610 adapter looks like it could be plugged into a Q660av PDS slot. It seems like the additional pins on the Q660av adapter are used to connect the DSP connector. I mean, what could be the point to have this white notch on the Q610 adapter if not to mimic the lenght of a Q660av PDS slot?

So yeah, I am about 90% sure that could work, but since I don't want to risk toasting anything, I am here to ask if any of you actually tried something like that? I am unaware of a Q660av PDS to 040 PDS adapter, so that kinda rules out the possibility people turned their Q660av's into DOS COmpatibles using something other than the adapter straight from the Q610, am I right?

Please, let me know what you think.
