HI
I just recently purchased a G5 Quad, without any extra options.
However I would now very much like to upgrade and purchase the Nvidia Quadro
FX4500 GPU. My reseller in sweden tells me that according to Apple, the FX4500 is NOT available as a separate add on, 'post' purchase.

Is this true? And if so, will it likely change in the near future?

regards:(

>>>Hi. Second time today on this topic! I think you should be aware that the performance of the FX4500 on the Mac is horrible...due to the drivers. Apple released 10.4.4 with updated drivers for the card. All accounts so far say..no significant improvement. The FX4500 on the Mac is a complete waste of money...and a lot of money too. If you truly *need*...(do you really?)..the performance of the FX4500, then buy or build a pc. I highly recommend Boxx tech for true dcc workstations. Now, the Mac quad with a 7800gtx is a very sweet machine....even for highend 3d work. If you would like to see some threads with benchmarks regarding the FX4500 on the Mac Quad...go to cgtalk or 3dbuzz.com. Enygma has provided many details.

good luck...

No upgrade option that I can find.

After talking several times with the Apple Store and my local authorized service center here in Canada, it seems to be the same surprising conclusion. If you want a new graphics card for your brand new G5 Quad - tough luck. You either upgrade when you buy it, or live with the 6600 that comes with it.

Hard to believe!
