Just My 2 Cents
does Apple have a quality control department that tests products before they are shipped out?
Oh they do, They do!
For the past 12 years I have worked on Windows based computers. I was a hard-core "I Believe in Windows!" nerd. But I grew really tired of BSOD's, and security leaks, virii, crashes, etc. I hadn't given up yet though, and I ordered myself a customized $1800 Dell gaming system. It arrived D.O.A. When I called support, I got India. That was frustrating, because they barely understand what I am saying, and I have Noooo accent at all. It took me a week to get them to take the computer back. They sent a replacement, when it arrived, it booted up, but only 1 of the 4 hard drives functioned, and the sound card didn't work at all. That was the final blow for me.
I sent that sucker back, and had to wait 6 weeks for a refund. During that 6 weeks, one of the schools that I was working for had me setup 9 Apple iBooks. They had a 10th, but one of their 7th graders had poured finger paint into the computer, and it wasn't working all that well. They gave me the laptop as partial payment for my time. After stripping the laptop to it's components (I had everything out, screws and all), I cleaned all the boards, replaced the topcase with a new keyboard and touchpad, and reassembled. That little G4 800 with 128 mb ram and a 20 gig drive, ran circles around my AMD 1.53 ghz computer with 256 mb ram. So I decided to just get an Apple.
I sold the laptop, and invested in a Quad G5, and I've never looked back. Sure it cost a bit more, but worth every penny. This Apple, and the two Dual Processor G4 towers that I got a few months back, run sweet. The G5 tower has been mine for 2 years now, and it runs the same now as it did NEW.
I've never been able to say that about any Windows computer I ever built or purchased. Rock solid and I love it.
I've also been converting family members from Windows systems to Apples, purely based on stability and ease of use.
