After a long 7 week wait for my iMac 24", it came... Broken. Something sharp has cut through the bottom part of the package, cutting through the outer cardboard, the package, and hitting the top part of the screen hard, so it has pretty much shattered.

I'm getting a replacement from the reseller (waiting again!) but mostly am worried that the new iMac would take a hit too. While the packaging was designed to be environmental friendly, if it can't protect the product within, isn't it beating the purpose of reducing the plastic? Now you'll have all the metal and glass broken and unusable, which is a waste. I don't know if Apple will just fix it and sell as refurbished, but oof, this is annoying.

Is there anyone with similar experiences?

Upon delivery, was it merely in the Apple iMac box, and not another packaging box, too?
I think yes, based on your post, but, want to be clear.

Regardless, sorry for your experience.

Two boxes. One plain cardboard, and within it the iMac package. Something has cut through both.

Maybe it was chopped by a machete.
Hassan chop!

If something has hit it with such a force that it's damaged both both boxes and shattered the screen, I'd say nothing short of encasing it in concrete would have helped it to arrive intact.

I tend to agree - the boxes are really sturdy and seem to weigh more than the computer. Sounds like something extreme happened - bad luck :( ... but unlikely to happen again.
