Last year i bought a 24" iMac in April. I had exchanged it 3 times because the screens on each model had varying degrees (from bad to just plain unacceptable) of problems that included color inconstancies and bleed.

This january i had a apple support technician come to my place to swap out the screen for a new one as ghosting and burn in had become too much to bare. The new screen has lots of bleed, but the color is more acceptable.

I'd be interested to hear from those who have purchased a new iMac (March 2009). How is your screen?

Yeah... I'd like to know about this too... screen gradients, display inconsistencies have kept me buying MacPros and Minis for a couple of years now... hopefully Apple will have completely overcome the mass screen inconsistencies by now!

Panel Type?

Another one that would like to know, reading that has made me want to wait for more user reviews on the iMacs.

I am also trying to find out what panel type these new iMacs are using, does anyone know that?

I also had replaced my 2007 screen, this was the 3rd screen this time, so they gave me a new 2009 model (downgraded? see other thread) but I can say this panel has 0 backlight bleed, seems that brightness control is more linear, and the viewing angles are the same. I had problems with dark, burnt spots appearing on the previous display, so time will tell on this new one. so far I am very happy with it.

i think the 24 incher is H-IPS as the previous one...
The new are all LM240WU2-SLB2 or B3...exactly the same! ;-)

I believe the 20" is PVA and the 24" is H-IPS.

20 inch is TN. You can tell because the 20 inchers rated viewing angle is 160 degrees, whereas manufacturers always quote 178 degrees for a PVA/IPS panel.

Well, I am not a user who is heavily into graphics and related applications - I only use my iMac for regular everyday ordinary use. But I did get a March 2009 iMac (20 inch) and I'm happy with the screen so far.

I have not yet experienced any problems (ghosting, dead pixels, color bleeds, etc), and I hope I will not any time soon.

My screen looks fine to me and I do some graphics work on it as well as a lot of web design--but it is not from the new batch so my input may not be much help.
