I am planning on buying a macbook pro, and was thinking of saving 500 bucks and getting a refurbished one. However, I don't know the quality and reputation of the refurbished macs.

Thanks

Do a search. Someone posted this exact same topic a few days ago and I'm sure it's been posted before that multiple times as well.

Short answer though. Refurb are just like New cept checked again. Go refurb. Great quality.

Search "quality of refurbs" or quality of refurbished"

there are two good ones in the first few results... someone should make this into a sticky if they haven't already. It seems like this is asked way too much.

The reputation of the refurbished units if very good. Some argue they are better quality because they go through a much more stringent testing process before being shipped to you. There are also a few case where people have gotten upgraded computers with more ram or a better graphics card than they ordered. This doesn't happen often but it does happen.

However, I don't think you get the normal retail box with a refurb, just a plain brown one.
