unbelievable.

quark 6 sucks.

my problems with it are huge.

1: I just tried to save a file I've been working on and it gave me an error message: "file is already open - 47". No matter what i tried, i couldn't save it anywhere. So i thought I'll have to revert back to an older version of the document, and I closed it without saving. Then in front of my eyes, the file disappears from the folder it was in, no where to be found!!!! I had to do the whole thing again!!!!!! angry is not the word.

2. What happened to the handy tool for dealing with pictures. Up til QXP5 if you double click any image with the content tool, you get a dialog that allows you to "get edition now", "launch publisher" and generally deal with pictures in a useful manner. Now it does nothing - you have to manually update pictures in the usage tab, and root around in the finder to open a tiff file for example. Why remove this? did they just forget to implement it? very shoddy...

3. at times for no apparent reason, when I try to paste some text (from Mail or textedit) into a text box it beeps at me and won't allow it. If I quit and restart QXP6, lo and behold it's fine again.

4. They've also removed the very handy document setup shortcut, that allows you to change the page sizes instantly......

5. redrawing of the screen is terrible. sometimes I get ghost page-scroller bars that just appear in the middle of the document and follow the movements of the mouse til you click again. then they won't go away until you minimise the window!

....so very very very unimpressed.

does anyone have similar or other problems with QXP6? let's see just how bad it is......

is my only option to spend a day with indesign to learn how to use that then?

sh*t

Well, I just ordered my 6.0 upgrade today (after pre-registering in July and never being contacted, I finally called them today!!) however, I had always intended to install it on my laptop and test it while continuing to use 4.1 on my main work PM until 6.01 is released. Only then will I trust the new Quark to handle my livelihood!

Have you seen the list of "known issues and bugs" on Quark's site - WOW!!!

Anyone remember installing 4.0 and all the fun that that brought until 4.0.1 was released...

what were you expecting, a very expensive and long-awaited application to actually work correctly, right out of the box? ;) it's really sad that this is so common now. hell, even Photoshop and Illustrator are still trouble in OS X. the worst example i've seen yet is ProTools 6. OMG, it's literally unusable. sometimes i wonder why they even bother. oh wait, i do know why. cha$ching.

The equation is simple:

Quark sucks, InDesign rules.

Quark waited way too long and InD got a nice big fat firm foothold. It's a great program.

I once really liked Quark back in the v 4 days. It blew PageMaker away.

Now Adobe has the full meal deal with InDesign.

Ya snooze, ya looze, Quark!

Yea you should have got InDesign - not only is it better, but it can even open Quark files. So if you have a friend or collegue with Quark, no probs with InDesign. Just remember to save it back as a Quark file. Cause Quark can't open InDesign files. or at least i haven't tried.

i'm having all those troubles with quark and more. Like when i try to resize a particular box, it just 'unexpectedly quits' every time. And if you miss the handle for an object by a fraction, and try to resize, it just quits. i save every minute now to avoid losing all my work. i nearly bought it, but because I couldn't get a working trial of it, I waited for my work to buy it - and I'm so glad i didn't spend the money. it's awful.
