Help I have a huge Quark problem!

I started a new job recently where they use Quark 6.0. I am used to Indesign and Quark 4.0. When styling text in quark previously I used the usage and found and changed the typeface and applied the style sheet. - this was simple and worked.

Now I am using find/change - apple F. this does work however when I find and change the bolds and italics changing them to the correct 'Character' - body italics (which works) when I then change all of the body text to 'paragraph' -body, it then gets rid of all of the italics and bolds that I have just styled and makes all the text the same.

hope this makes sense!

Please help- none of our IT (useless) support seem to be able to help as they do not know Quark!

Thanks. :)

I'm afraid I don't know how to solve that problem... but I too use Quark at work, version 7.31 now, and can confidently say to solve most problems, convince them to use InDesign instead :p

I tried but the boss isn't listening :(

I use InDesign for all my freelance projects.

Sorry for the next-to-useless post...

(You should try getting them to upgrade to Quark 7... its a huge improvement over 6/6.5 and could address your issue!)

I'm having problems understanding your issue and on first impression, it seems that you're having problems with using paragraph style sheets and character style sheets.

Paragraph style sheets in Quark apply across the entire paragraph, however local formatting can over-ride that if it's done after the paragraph style.

Best to do all the paragraph styling before you do the character styling. If you set up one or more character style-sheets, then you can do a find and replace on them by unclicking the 'ignore attributes' on the find and replace box and searching out and replacing characters that way.

Enter 'Understanding style sheets' into Quark Help.
