QuarkXpress 6 for Leopard

I know Leopard has been out for 9 months now, but a Google search turned up nothing I wanted.

I may be upgrading a G5 to Leopard soon, and my dad runs this machine with "mission critical" applications like Quark, Office, CS. I already know Office and CS work from my computer, but Quark I have no idea.

Can anyone enlighten me with your experience with Quark 6 and Leopard?
 
I can't say anything about Quark 6 and Leopard, but Quark 7 definitely works. I would suggest that your father looks into upgrading Quark as Version 8 is just about to be released. If you check the Quark site, you can buy 7 now and get a free upgrade to 8. I don't know if this deal applies to an upgrade version 7 or just a full version. If it does apply to the upgrade version, then I would suggest that now is a very good time to buy.
 
Really? Why do you hate Quark?

I run 7 on leopard, and it's a bit hiccupy now and then but work fine.
 
I have just (since version 2.0 anyway) always found InDesign to be a better product. More tools, features, useful integration into the Creative Suite, better PDF production... the list goes on.

I work with Quark every day. Have done for many years (4, 6, now 7). I find whenever something annoys me in my day job in Quark, when doing freelance work in InDesign its not a problem. For me anyway :)
 
A word of warning – we had some issues with Quark and Leopard at work.

We acquired a pair of new Mac Pros that came pre-installed with 10.5, and it threw up problems wit accessing Quark files on our server. To cut a long story short, if you opened up a Quark document on the server and worked on it, you can save it once and then that's it – it wouldn't let you resave. We used a work around of copying the files off the server onto the computer, but obviously this wasn't an ideal situation. In the end, we had to downgrade the machines to Tiger and this solved the problem.
 
Reading various forums it's apparently a very common problem that exists across different server types (it's Mac-based with 10.4 Server, I think). The saving problem happens when the Stationery Pad option in the file's Get Info window is selected – this quirk is apparently the case on all versions of Quark, but in Quark 6 under Leopard it switches itself on automatically when you save, so you can't prevent it from happening.

We tried the Quark 7 trial version and the problem stopped, so upgrading our Quark licences would have done the trick. The thing is though, we have over a dozen licences so such an upgrade would have been quite an expensive undertaking.
 
Quark 6 and Leopard is supposed to be questionable. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but since I need my computer for work, I refused to run Quark 6 with Leopard for any mission-critical jobs. Quark also does not recommend using 6 with Leopard, only 7.

Your mileage may vary....

Ditto. Quark has been so lax in the development of their software - I'm still infuriated by not having keyboard tool selection options. How dumb is that? Unless everyone at my firm and I just have overlooked it. And PDF takes ages to export, and often has problems with drop shadows/transparencies, etc...

In a perfect world, QX2ID would be a lot cheaper.
