Question about 3G & Unlocked (International Service)

I live in Tokyo, but I frequent other countries like the USA. I was wondering since iPad offers a prepaid service, it's unlocked and no contract, would it be possible to use 3G service in different countries on that same device? If they offer a similar plan as AT&T. Example I bring to the device to Japan and under carriers it allows me to select Soft Bank, I bring it to Germany I can select T-Mobile or if I bring it to the states I can select AT&T. Thanks

Yes, you'll just need to swap to a local SIM to avoid roaming charges.

Theoretically it would work I assume, however it would probably depend on each network. You would need a new SIM for each network provider.
