I was using my friends AirPods (2nd Gen) to listen to music on spotify, (i have the equalizer present to increase bass). I noticed that her AirPods made this crumbling noise every time there was bass, but when I used my wired EarPods, the bass was deep and rich, no audio issues present. I’m not sure if hers were defective, however they are genuine AirPods she purchased from the Apple store. Does anyone have similar bass issues with their AirPods?

TL;DR - AirPods (2nd Gen) make a weird crumbling noise with bass booster but wired EarPods do not. Is it a hardware issue?

Sounds like it's blown. I've never had this happen to earphones but it did happen to my iPhone 7 Plus - couldn't turn it up past about 30% without it distorting. Apple should replace them for you.
