I know it's possible to set up XBMC with a jailbroken Apple TV 2 and a wireless external hard drive. My problem is what kind of drive to get.

It can be connected directly into the router, but the apple TV and my laptop are wireless. I want to be able to access the files on the external hard drive without having to first mount it to my computer. Ay suggestions on what hard drives will get this done? I'm looking for one that's at least 2TB so that I can use it for other things as well.

Thanks.

Oh, and can someone also explain to me how the external hard drives work on a mac. How do you mount them and do you have to unmount them before you leave the network they are on (like how you have to unmount normal external ones before you unplug them)?

external

As long as your devices are on the same network you can have a NAS plugged into your router and read/write files. The drive will show up in your finder under devices tab on the side. I think I already posted a similar reply on your other tread regarding XBMC and ATV2. Oh and no you don't have to unmount them when you leave your house. And even better if you have a MobileMe account and the airport extreme or time capsule you can enable back to my mac and connect to your NAS from outside you home network. For instance when I go to class I can still watch movies that are stored on my NAS at home. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Question about apple TV, external hard drive, and XBMC

I am trying to get my 3TB NAS to work but for some reason I can't, what I am trying to do is get icefilms to download to my NAS drive but keep getting a script error, I there a way to download to the NAS via XBMC or only stream to XBMC from the NAS, I getting a lot of buffering so I want to download from the atv2 to the NAS via XBMC. A step by step guide would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
