An old uni friend who know lives in a different hemisphere from me has sent me an email asking if I would like to be one of his facebook friends. He was a nice guy who I lost touch with unfortunately and I can see the benefit of saying hello on his page but I have to join facebook as well.

I have always been reluctant to join facebook as it always seemed a bit of a (insert a derogetory term here which rhymes with plank).

But I don't want to offend an old friend.

So if I join will ANYONE be able to see my page or can I restrict who sees it or will all the millions of facebook users be able to see it.

I also see that tehre are many viruses, phishing emails and worms I can pick up from it. Also what about identity theft which I hear about.

So should I join face book and am I worrying too much?

there are privacy settings

you can have it so no one can find your name and no one but your friends can see your profile

even then you can restrict your profile to certain individuals

Facebook has privacy settings so you an allow only who you want to see.

And you on a mac, so your pretty safe

If you still don't want to get facebook, just tell him and ask him to send you the public link of all the photos he uploads!
