Hi, I ordered my MBP on sat and should be in on the 27th the latest. My question is that I have an HP now and it came with a CD with Windows XP Pro SP2 on it. I was curious can I use this to do a clean install for bootcamp and Parralells

ive used it for other PC's some that i have built on my own

and it worked with those

Is it a recovery CD for your HP machine, or is it a seperate OS CD?

When you say that you used it for other PC's, were you able to boot off the CD, then get into the installation process with no other HP dialogue?

If this is the case, and it is an XP installation CD, not recovery CD, then you should be able to use it. Licensing will be another issue, especially when you will need to activate it.

If it is an actual XP Pro CD and not a Recovery Disc (meaning you probably special ordered your HP to include XP Pro, right?) - it shouldn't be a problem. If you do have issues with the activation - when you call MS, tell them your HP died and you are using it on a new laptop (that's what I did about an hour ago when I used one of my legit XP Pro SP2 discs to install a BootCamp partition), they'll give you a new activation code and voila.

If it is a recovery CD - you still may be able to use it - google "extract XP Pro Image from recovery CD" and see what turns up - if you don't mind re-packing your own ISO, it can definitely be done.
