Hey guys/gals, I'm kind of confused right now. What is the point of emptying your Cache?

How come when I go to a website such as these forums after I empty my cache it still remembers my password? I thought that emptying your cache resets all the cookies?

Thanks for your help.

your cache is simply a list of the sites you have visited with some images/files from each site that are automatically downloaded when you visit it. keeping them makes visiting the page again faster, but it also takes up space and can slow down safari.

If you are using Safari then just select reset Safari. It will empty cache & remove visited sites, names, passwords, etc. but your bookmarks and such stay..

You'll find Safari uses up more RAM the longer you use it during a session. Emptying the cache occasionally will free up this RAM a bit. Open up activity monitor and check it out as you use Safari over some hours, then clear the cache and you can see this for yourself.
