iPod Question about Docks and generation Compatability

I recently bought a new 7.1 receiver(Onkyo 606) and it came with a Ipod Dock that says it is compatable with
5th gen Ipod with Video,
Ipod Photo
4th gen Ipod
2nd gen Ipod Nano
1 gen Ipod Nano

When I buy my 120gb Classic will I be able to use it with this dock? Or will I have to get a different one? If i have to get a different one what do you recommend?

If it is not compatible, it won't charge the iPod. But I think the iPod classic and older iPods still use the same pins for audio output.

So it will play music, but may not charge your iPod.

Your Onkyo receiver's iPod dock will almost definitely charge one of the new iPod Classics, but if the receiver is advertised as "passing through" the video to an external jack to connect to a TV, the video (probably) won't work.

For the Classic to output video through the dock connector, it must have an Apple-licensed "authentication" chip built into the device. Apparently, there are very few devices which qualify, and those would be the very newest ones.

But if you're only interested in the audio output, and charging, I'm quite sure the Onkyo would do nicely.

As long as you're not hoping for the iPod to produce any 5.1 mixed songs. The dock will pass through the audio just fine. I'm not sure if the dock uses the 30-pin dock connection or just a stereo output, but both would work I am sure. Video gets hazy. So I would count on audio working just fine, and don't expect video support.
