Question about EyeTV 200

I just got EyeTV 200 and hooked it up to my PowerBook. I turned the EyeTV off and the light was orange. I had set up for a recording to take place at 8pm. I exited the EyeTV application, put my PB to sleep and left. The light on the EyeTV was still orange (before it was red and while on it was green).
Needless to say it didn't record.

I don't know for certain, does the PowerBook have to be on to record or can the application be open with the PB sleeping? Will it then activate when EyeTV wants to record?

I am hooked up to digital basic cable through coax cable on this box.

I'm not really sure on this, but i don't think eyetv can wake your powerbook, thus your only solution would be to leave the powerbook running.

My 410 will wake the computer up to record, either off sleep or if it's been shut down completely. I thought it was an option under Preferences but I can't see it obviously (I have a Power Mac not a PowerBook if it makes any difference)
I haven't yet found a way to shut it down automatically (apart from using OSXs auto shutdown, under Energy Saver).

Your EyeTV 200 should definitely be able to wake your powerbook up from sleeping at a set time.
It is a preference within the EyeTV software IIRC.

Unfortunately, I can't use my EyeTV 'cause it disconnects my modem and, therefore, it's out of my system. I'm sorry I cannot give you more specific directions, but look around: it's there.

Well in order to record, the PowerBook will have to be running (i.e. not sleeping) for disk access, but as others have said, the EyeTV software should take care of that. For what it's worth, there aren't any "wake from sleep" options--it's supposed to work regardless.

However, if it doesn't work, I wouldn't be immensely suprised. Whenever I use EyeTV, it doesn't even disable the screen saver. If timeshifting didn't work so effortlessly, I'd be downright annoyed about that. What you can try is leaving the EyeTV software running (you can close the TV window, but don't exit EyeTV) and see if that fixes your problem. If it doesn't, you might have to create a custom profile which sets only the display to sleep for when you have recordings scheduled.

Thanks. I am going to try all of this. Again, it's new to me so maybe I am doing something odd. I'll check it out.

I am also thinking of going back and getting EyeTV 500. I don't know if that's a good idea since I understand the HD is more processor intensive than the standard digi cable and that the shows take twice the room that standard would (which is understandable). Nonetheless, it's something to look into.

Someone else on Amazon said that G4 owners should beware because the eyetv doesn't wake the powerbook from sleep, it can't for some reason and Elgato isn't willing to try and fix this. It's hard to say. I'd be interested to know how many powerbook users have success in getting the eyetv to wake their powerbooks.
