To start off, I would like to mention I am not a musician. I have receive little to no musical training in my 24 years on earth. I always wanted to do something with music, but I have neither the time, nor the way to learn the details of creating music. I do, however, consider myself to be a music nut. My 20GB 4G ipod just crapped out on me due to using it about 2 hours a day for the last 21 months or so, either at the gym or for traveling or home use. I have over 500 CD's and have downloaded a few hundred songs off itunes. When I dont have iTunes on, I always have XM streaming on my PC or in my car.
In other words, I listen to A LOT of music. Mainly rock both classic and new, punk, some instrumental stuff, and some classical. I consider myself to be very knowledgeable on music history and music in general. Not so much on technique and written music, but in general themes of harmony and "something just sounding right."
Often times I find my thinking of a particular guitar line or drum beat or sound of piano or something and I just wonder where I had heard it before. Many times I either can't remember or I end up deciding I just made it up. (Much in the same way to this day Sir Paul swears he had heard Yesterday before he wrote it. - Not that I am comparing myself to Paul McCartney)
Since I did always want to create music, I looked up what Garage Band can do for me. I just kind of want to play around and maybe put some music together. Nothing serious, just kind of want to record some stuff whether it be some guitar stuff or piano, like I said before with no musical training - just ideas in my head that I want to get down.
Is this program easy to use for what I want to do with it? Or am I asking too much of the program? Are there any books to help me get started with it once i buy an iMac?
Thank you for reading such a long post and I appreciate the responses.
