Question about Getting an Apple Genius Job

I am interested in getting an Apple Genius Job and was just wondering what steps I must take in order have a high chance of success.

I am 23, currently a college student, and have taken apart and put together multiple Mac's that I have owned, MacBook's, MacBook Pro's, My Own Mac Pro, Mac Mini's and have been using OSX since the switch to Intel. I have done things from RAM upgrades to reapplying thermal paste. I have limited retail experience other then managing online customer service for my family's company for the past 5 years.

Also I have experience using Final Cut Pro 7, and Final Cut Pro X.. and have done some animation, though not on any OSX specific applications.

I was wondering what steps I should take to have a chance of getting a Genius Job, I consider myself to be pretty handy with tech and pretty good with people as well as trouble shooting. I know that Job Applications are probably very competitive but was wondering if anyone could give me some solid advice before I apply.

Also would anyone know what the going rate for Apple Genius Salary is these days, and if they get any decent discounts on Mac Hardware.

Would it help me get noticed to go into the store or stores in which I applied and ask a manager directly. Early in the morning before they get really busy? I assume a ton of people apply and one has to do something to put themselves out there.

Also is the Apple Jobs website accurate in its postings for vacancies ?

I don't work for Apple so I'm not sure if it is up to the store manager to do the hiring. It seems like you have to apply online and maybe they have an interview after they review your resume.

Maybe you should call up an Apple store and ask someone how the process works.

The website seems to be pretty accurate in regards to vacancies, just narrow down the location that you would be interested in.

First, it will definitely help your odds if you know management at one of the stores but it won't land you the job. You can go into the store and ask for someone but that does you nothing, you'll ultimately get directed to apply online. This is where knowing someone will help. Yes, Apple posts job openings but doesn't mean you will get an e-mail inviting you to their job seminars. Knowing someone will almost get you an invite. After that, it's all about networking and being outgoing once you're at the seminar.

A lot of people get wrapped up with trying to know as much about Apple in terms of technical knowledge which is helpful but not at the early stages. The job seminar basically allows Apple to determine whether or not you fit their mould of what a customer service rep is because that's what Apple's business is - customer service.

Once you get past the seminar stage, it's then one or numerous interviews where you then use your technical knowledge, it helps but again won't land you the job. I know a few Genius in the stores in the area and while they're great at engaging customers, some absolutely suck as a Genius' - you wonder how they even landed a Genius position.

At the end of the day, if you're great at customer service at the level Apple wants, your chances are greater even if you don't know that much, Apple will train/teach you, don't think because you can list all specs, describe them and can troubleshoot with your eyes closed you're the perfect candidate.

I already applied through the Apple website before posting my initial post, I am just wondering about how to make sure I get noticed and called in. My people skills are pretty good, and i am quite knowledgeable about their product line, although that doesn't seem to count for all that much.

If I have yet to receive a reply of any sort despite the site showing job openings, should I assume I need to change something on what I have written on my resume and cover letter? Or is this just how long it normally takes...

It's been about 2 weeks since you've applied. Applications stay active in their recruiting system for 90 days. There's no guarantee that you'll even get a call.
