should I install and update to that version? How come it didn't notify me automatically that it's available?

It's up to you to update or not. There are some threads discussing it in the iOS 10 forum that might help with the decision by providing more information about the update.

As for being notified, I'd say that the same things that were discussed in other threads you posted about that kind of thing at https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ll-contents-and-settings-please-help.1724980/ and https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ng-me-red-badge-on-settings-app-help.1728027/ would still apply.

Are people having problems with it? Would you recommend me to wait or is it ok to install now? I don't know what I should do.

When did it release? This week?
It was released on Monday this week: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/24/apple-releases-ios-10-1-with-new-portrait-mode/
Are people having problems with it? Would you recommend me to wait or is it ok to install now? I don't know what I should do.
Fort the most part people aren't having any more issues than they had with earlier iOS 10 updates. More discussion about it all is in a few threads like https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...trait-mode-for-iphone-7-plus-updated.2008918/ and https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-10-1-bug-fixes-and-changes.2008924/ as well as https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/are-you-having-ios-10-1-issues.2009213/

Generally people update to the latest version, unless they perhaps have some reason not to.

I understand I made a thread about automatic updates not appearing but did it stop because previous times I clicked "cancel auto install"? Is there a way to double check if it's still set to automatic?

As also discussed in those earlier linked threads, the checks for new iOS updates are done automatically and are built into iOS without a way for the user to control/change them.

I've never had iOS immediately notify me when a update is available. In my experience iOS will wait days or weeks to push a notification for an update.
