Question about iPad as "notebook replacement" -- Re: Uploading Pics via web

** I'll preface this by saying that I am getting an iPad, as soon as I can find a Best Buy that has it in stock **

I'd love to use an iPad as a complete notebook replacement for my MBP on the go except that there is just one simple, tiny, IRRITATING problem.

I work on a website that requires me to be able to upload full-size images along with article thumbnails via a web browser. There is no way I can do this with Mobile Safari or any other web browser from the App Store because the browser can only save photos and not upload photos due to Apple's filesystem restrictions.

For that reason alone, it could never serve as a complete notebook replacement (for me at least).

Now am I totally wrong, or is there simply no way to get around this? Cydia maybe?

No, and I don't know of many sites other than tinyurl that does.

It's a rather simple, and essential feature to have in a full-fledged mobile device IMHO. Just a simple My Documents folder to access would suffice.

It's not a problem with my iPhone because I'd never use it for work anyway with its small screen, but I wish I could be able to do this basic operation with the iPad.

No, I need to be able to upload a local image, just like just about any other website out there.

Typical scenario. I write an article in the CMS, I'll edit the photos on my MacBook Pro, then upload them from there.

can you login the web server's control panel from safari browser?

I use eBAy daily and use a app called garage sale. Works great.

The iPad is not meant to be a laptop replacement. Don't kid yourself. For those few that have replaced their laptop with it, they never really needed the power of laptop in the first place, it was just the most appropriate device at the time they bought it.

It won't be a complete replacement, but having the simple option of uploading some pics from a My Documents folder would make it immensely more useful for work. That's all I'm saying.

I just don't understand how we can save images to a "pool" on the iPad, but not upload pics from the same "pool" without using an dedicated app.

Problem solved (at least for my work site)! I emailed the webmaster and asked him if he could add an "Upload from URL" option for me. Took him 20 minutes and he got it done

i think FTP client and uploads may work. The app will call the photos from albums, and upload directly to server. It depends on the site, but you may have to edit some codes to verify the files.
