Question about iPad shipping dates from Apple

Hi all,

I couldn't take it anymore and finally broke down and ordered an iPad from the apple store on Monday. It just seemed like it would be a perfect travel companion for an upcoming trip I have planned to the Caribbean.

Anyway, the site said it will ship in 7-10 days and my order confirmation estimates that it will ship in 15 days with delivery in 18. From your experience, do they usually ship a bit early or are the estimates generally accurate? The reason I ask is because the estimated delivery is the day before I leave for my trip. I feel like I'm cutting it a bit close.

What have your iPad shipping experiences been like when ordering online from Apple?

Same exact ordering situation for me. I ordered last night, and it said 7-10 days for shipping.

Do people find deliveries a little ahead of estimates.

The last one I ordered, 32gb3g, was on Sunday, 6/20. They gave me an est shipping date of 7/6 and del date of 7/9. It actually shipped last Sunday (here) 6/27 and I rec'd it today, 6/30. I ordered it online from Apple. I guess they're catching up. Good luck.

ugopj - Thanks for the response. I'm definitely optimistic that it will ship on time, if not early. In my opinion, setting conservative ship dates and delivering early is something Apple does intentionally. Definitely makes for a positive customer experience.

I think it depends on the model.

I ordered a 16gb WiFi & 3G on 15th June with a ship date of 29th June and delivery on 1st July.

However it did not arrive today but will arrive on 6th July.

Not happy but they did give me a $50 credit.

Hoping it arrives Tuesday or sooner.

It was offered. This was from the Australia Apple Store.

I have heard of a few others that were given a credit or voucher.

I think it depends honestly. For me apple shipped it pretty much the day they said they would ship it...maybe 1 day earlier. I was reading all of these threads about the ship dates and everyone saying you usually receive the ipad by the day apple says it is going to ship ... it usually comes a few days early.

As a result, I checked my order status every 5 minutes and also checked best buys stock every 5 minutes. I talked myself out of going to best buy probably at least 10 times because I didn't want to a.) cancel my apple order and then go to best buy to find out they sold the last one or b.) by the time i get back from best buy the order will be in a status where I can no longer cancel.

I would just assume that the day that apple gave you is the ship date and leave it at that. They will e-mail you once it ships and the shipping info from fedex will give you an exact date. But trust me....refreshing the order status page every 5 minutes won't make it ship faster

I'm hoping for that, too. My daughter's iPad isn't expected until 13 July and until it comes I will hardly get a chance to use my own.
