Question About Iphone Re-activation

I just bought an iphone and even though im only 16 activated the iphone with my SSN etc but then cancelled it through ATT my iphone still works with everything but the phone but i wanted to re-activate it i bought the SAME EXACT sim card found in the iphone and when i get it in the mail im going to put it in the tray and re-activate becasue i figured out i want the phone feature and the EDGE im just wondering if anyone has tried to do this before or have any suggestions on what i should do before re-activating it like should i resotre the settings etc.
