I do not own an iphone, but I have a friend who just got one. She has told me a few things that I just think aren't right.

First she said she added 200 texts to her att contract. I said there are text apps at itunes. She says they wouldn't work unless she had a jailbreak phone. Is that true? Its my understanding that they would work, but you would jailbreak so you can text and leave another application open (not have to close it out).

Second and this has nothing to do with texting, but she said that if she went to the Mac store and bought her phone she could never as long as she lives buy another one. What the...? I can't see the Mac store turning down several hundred dollars because you had purchased a phone in the past.

Any info on this would be great. I want an iphone but if either of these are true I may have to look into getting some knock off just out of principle.

You need to be Jailbroken to use SMS apps from Cydia. They will not stop you getting texts, just make sure you set it as your default SMS app.

Maybe she ment she can't afford one or doesn't want another one? Don't take everything so seriously :p

Thanks Tokiopop.

LOL, she can't afford the one she got. If you knew her you would know if she hears anything about anything the first "anything" is golden and there is no way to convince her otherwise. None of the info I get from here will be used to convince her because whoever she heard the first stuff from "is law".

We pretty much eat, sleep and breathe Mac at our house. My hubby is a Mac Operator, I asked him about buying one at a Mac store and he said that was ridiculous. But thought I'd come here and find out for my own knowledge.

Thanks again.

There are text apps via the App Store that you can use without a jailbroken iPhone that can allow texting unlimited for free such as Txtnow Unlimited etc... and of course as stated before there are text apps via Cydia as well.

This just doesn't make sense, unless she is saying for that price she would have to keep the phone forever... because obviously you can buy a new one at anytime... albeit for a premium price.
