After the jailbreak, do i need to change anything, or is my phone ready to go? And is my information safe, of course i know i should only download from trusted developers on the cydia store, but is there any precautions i need to take? Just making sure before i jailbreak for the first time, thank you.

Generally speaking, you're good to go after jailbreaking. Don't need to change anything (besides re-enabling find my iphone if you disabled it to jailbreak)

However, if you install OpenSSH, remember to change your mobile and root password through terminal!

ANOTHER QUESTION -

Is it ok if i backup my iphone 6 plus on my mac, and use a friends windows laptop ONLY to jailbreak? would there be any side consequences or drawbacks to this that i should be aware of?

thanks in advance!

No. There's nothing wrong with that. Just make sure that you do, in fact, make a backup.
