Question about Mac mini

Hello everybody!

I'm planning to buy my first mac soon. The sole reason i am buying this is for Logic. I have a quiet high end windows desktop, so i dont need any other functions.

Now my question is the following:
- Will a current mac mini run logic well enough?

Im gonna put in 8GB ram, and im gonna offstream my music to an external HD to bypass the slower built in HDD (not feeling like chaning the HD in the macmini tbh).
I know that logic is a pretty high end program but i've seen (non graphic) benchmarks (cant remember where) in which the imac, macmini and mpb perform quiet equally.
Im guessing that the upgraded mini will come in the summer or later, but i dont really have the time to wait on that.

Any other info/tips?

yeah the 8gb ram is pretty much a given.

read the thread on seagates t-bolt adapter.

adding a fast ssd is easy and can cost okay for a blazing fast sata III ssd.

I have a base-model i5 Mac Mini with 4GB RAM which I use with Logic.

It runs well.

I definitely recommend getting an external disk. Logic would complain that the disk was too slow when running projects from the internal disk.

An external USB disk cut down these errors dramatically. An external Firewire 800 disk stopped them altogether.

Activity monitor shows that 4GB is easily enough for Logic, at least for the kind of projects that I use it for. (That said, I am upgrading my Mini to 8GB, to allow me to run Virtual Box without slowing the system down.)

I should add that I use it almost exclusively for Midi recording. I never record several tracks of audio at once. This would presumably put more strain on the external disk, but from what I've read, a Firewire disk is supposed to be able to handle it.

If I was going to buy a Mini for use with Logic today, I'd get the "server version", which has the i7 quad-core processor, and the -two- internal 7200rpm drives. The second drive could be used for music files...
