I just ordered a MacBook a few days ago and received it today from Apple.com. I currently have a MacBook Pro C2D.

Unfortunately I don't live near a Apple store and am in a very rural area so I hadn't seen one in person. From the web site and description I could tell it had a different look, more white than silver but a few things shocked me.
First, I understand it's more of a budget and consumer notebook but the look was definitely more cheap but inside it's a great machine. What really got to me was the keyboard. I enjoy the Macbook Pro's keyboard and it seems very nice. The backlight is nice but most of all it has a very comfortable/professional feel.

The Macbook keyboard just did not appeal to me. It felt more cheap but didn't feel 'real'. Of course I'm not used to it and want to give it a fair chance. I''ve heard the Macbook is a newer design than the MacBook Pro so does this mean the Macbook Pro keyboard will be like this? Is it something you get used to with time and is it actually a better keyboard once you get used to it? I am thinking of returning it but want to get it a fair chance. I'm almost wondering if it's worth waiting for a 13" MacBook Pro.

It's a terrible keyboard, and I'm not qualifying that. There's a reason every keyboard in the last 20 years has had certain spacing and curved buttons.

I hope they change it back-I figure it probably is easier to cram the keyboard under the lid when they make it like that.

Unfortunately a ton (maybe all?) of Sony's current laptops are the same way-even their 17" models. So it must currently be "cool" to do this, even if they make for terrible keyboards.

What stinks too is Apple used to be known for great keyboards-and I guess the MBP still is good for a laptop. And I have to say it-Dell is serious about putting solid (for a laptop) keyboards on there too.

When I do a price comparison between the MB and MBP, the terrible keyboard is something I put down as being worth at least $200 for me.

I LOVE the MacBook keyboard for this reason- the keys don't touch. I'm a horrible typist and this keyboard makes it so much easier to not make mistakes. The fact that there is space between the keys makes it so much easier to not screw up. I've always had an extra hard time typing on laptop keyboards. The MacBook's keyboard goes a long way to prevent mistakes. I love it.

Think about it- when typing on a pro keyboard, it's so much harder to hit the wrong key. There is space between all of them. But when you type on a typical laptop, it's really easy to hit the wrong key. The MacBook keyboard corrects this.

Hmm...so maybe people who don't type well like the design (for lack of a tactful way of putting it-no offense!)

I touch type and like the Macbook's keyboard. Yes, it has short-stroke keys but it's consistent in how each key "feels." It's not bad actually -- not mushy, somewhat firm. But I can type on about anything, from antique manual typewriters to IBM Model M's. ;)
