Question about Mail and Push on an unlocked Canadian iPhone

Hi,

I am looking into the 10MB for $10 a month plan...It'll give me 100 or so emails a day. I just want the plan for the email as I can live without the net until they get cheaper plans here. Plus, I have WiFi all the time around me.

So the question...

The plan I am getting doesn't have push capabilities, but during the keynote, Steve said that yahoo (and now gmail I hear) have push capabilities to get the mail to the phone. So does this mean I do not need to concern myself with the plan not having push since my mail will do it automatically?

Secondly,

Since the iPhone mail system is so beautiful and rich in colour, does that mean that I am paying more for data on each email than say, a blackberry? Or as long as there aren't beefy attachments, each email won't be bigger than a few kb each.

Don't know about gmail

I tried yahoo briefly, but it didn't appear to push very well.

I don't know the details, but I have heard that the blackberry system involves compression of email as well as options to handle attachments. The iPhone does not.

The bandwidth you use will depend on your usage, your use of email protocol (for example push vs. IMAP vs. POP - do a google search to find out more about the latter 2 and bandwidth).

I get a fair number of emails, often with attachments. I went through 2.5 MB pretty quickly. YMMV, but 10 MB may be tight (unless you use wifi most of the time)

I wouldn't touch the Data plan right now...

If you have Wi-Fi all around you, why do you need EDGE. If you really have to see your e-mails from everywhere, you just select to refresh your mail manually. This time, when you're on EDGE and waiting for an e-mail, you just refresh it when you want or select 15 min refresh. 10MB is not enough for a month, it's sure you will get huge invoice because you will blow your maximum. When I receive e-mails on my computer, It delete them right away from the server so my iPhone won't get them. But on my iPhone, I select on the Mail settings to keep them on the server so I can have them also on my computer if needed. So if I received a huge attachment at home, it won't be downloaded on my iPhone, this way I can cut the data transfer.

Does anyone know if Yahoo's PUSH email service works on an unlocked iPhone in Canada using Rogers? As far as I can tell, it is not working for me.
