I just jailbroke my 3G using QuickPwn and I understand that you have to use the "Manage" tab in Cydia to uninstall Cydia apps; however, there are a lot of apps in there that I did not install. Are all of those apps in there actually installed when you QuickPwn and, if so, what is the impact of having all of those apps on my phone. Do they take up a lot of space, affect battery life, etc? Other than the few apps I installed myself (Cycorder, SBSettings, etc.), do I need those other apps? Are they necessary for Cydia and/or the actual jailbreak to run properly?

What other apps are you referring to??

There are a whole bunch of them listed - adv-cmds, apt, base structure,
berkeley db, etc. There are a lot more than that and if I click on the modify button for any of them, it gives me the option to reinstall or remove - that makes it seem as if they are installed even though I didn't install them. The only progs I specifically installed so far are SBSettings, AptBackup, Cycorder, PDANet, StatusNotifier, Searcher and PowerTool.

Those are all system files that the phone needs for the jb to operate properly.
You know how on your computer (Mac, PC, etc.) there are a bunch of different folders with a bunch of files with 'esoteric names'? You didn't install those either, your OS needs them to run properly. Same principle here! :D
...
Oh and yes, they do take a toll on your iphone's overall performance. (At least in my case it has...) But I'll take that vs. not having a video camera and the ability to theme, have emulators and the list goes on! LOL

Thanks for replying - good thing I didn't uninstall any of those things then;). They should probably put a warning in there or something (or not let you even have the option to delete those apps).
