So I just picked up a mid-2011 base Mac mini with an Intel 180gb ssd and 8gb of ram for 100 bucks. Not bad right? The issue with it is that half the I/O backplate has been torn off including the power button.

Would I be right to assume that if I just buy another backplate with a power button I won't have to do any wiring? I'm not sure how the power button mechanism works.

Here is an ifixit guide showing how to remove the I/O bezel:

It looks like the power button is part of the I/O bezel assembly and a power wire is attached via a connector. I guess it would depend on how the power button was tore off. You would have to open it up to see if the connector broke off the power wire, did the power wire break, or (if lucky) it is still on the wire and the wire is fine.

Thanks, you answered my question! I still have the wires intact but no actual button but the part I'm going to buy includes the button so I should be fine.
