Hey everyone, I think I’m usually pretty good about picking out scams, but I recently purchase a maxed out MacBook on eBay that I wanted to get some feedback on.

I paid $1,100 for the 16gb/i7/512GB version, with AppleCare through 2021. The price seemed fair, and the seller has been an eBay member since 1998. For some reason his feedback rating is 0%, despite having positive feedback for transactions (as both a buyer and seller) that are all over 12 months old. He also has several items available for local pickup, such as large furniture, and communication was solid throughout the entire transaction. My assumption was he hadn’t sold anything on eBay for several years, and recently decided he wanted to get rid of a few things.

The MacBook got delivered today, and it’s in great shape, but I see that it’s a refurbished computer - something that was not disclosed during the sale.

I will probably try to dispute the price, given that it wasn’t disclosed to be a refurbished, but wanted to get your thoughts on other things to check, or take into consideration. I always do a clean install when purchasing secondhand computers, and may take it to an Apple store to see if there are any hardware diagnostics they can run.

Anyway - appreciate any help in advance!

I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If the laptop was a good deal, is in good condition then you have nothing to worry about. Especially if it has an active Applecare plan. If there were anything wrong with it, Applecare would cover the cost of the repair. As far as the refurbished part of it, I wouldn't be concerned at all. Refurbished Apple items are basically the same as purchasing one brand new. Really hard to tell the difference between that and a new one, if you even can at all.
