So I got my Mac and I would like to transfer the songs from my iPod onto it.

I read the guide and I tried the programs, iPodRip and Senuti, but their trial versions only allow up to 1000 songs transferred and I have almost 4000 songs + some skate videos.

Using the terminal method, I'm familiar that upon opening the hidden folder, the songs are listed with names that F00, F001, something like that. If I do the songs transfer that way and put them into iTunes, will they show up as the regular song title/artist and retain the album covers?

I've done this a few times. Things like artist, title and album are definitely retained and I THINK the last time I did it (about 6 months ago) the cover art was as well.

Not sure about cover art though, but if it doesn't just get iTunes to fill it all in for you again. I think the option used to be in the advanced tab then "get album artwork".

If the art was grabbed by iTunes it won't be, but that's an easy fix as you can just ask iTunes to grab the artwork again. If you dragged the artwork to the song then it is embedded in the file. All other metadata; artist, song name, album, will be retained.
