Since owning my iPad I have realized just how difficult it can be to do things on my PC, after spending four days stuffing around with drivers and software and other rubbish trying to get a wifi adapter working I am just about ready to toss my computer in the bin :p So I want to make the move to a Mac, my research suggests that it will handle everything I would need to throw at it in the foreseeable future so no qualms there and it's comparative simplicity is very appealing.

Anyway sob story aside I am looking at the iMac 21.5 inch 512graphics and 3.2GHz i3, I get an education discount but as a student my budget is still pretty tight so I was looking at the refurb iMacs. That will save me an extra $200, however there is no option to have iWork installed on the refurb model, will I need to buy this separately in which case the price difference will drop to a mere $70 and I may as well buy the new Mac instead. (Prices are the Aussie ones)

Thank you kindly for the advice :)

There are free alternatives to iWork, like OpenOffice. You should check that out for a while, see if it fulfills your needs. Also, if you're not buying right away, it might be worth waiting until the Mac App Store opens, and see how much iWork costs there.

Thank you for that suggestion, I would prefer iWork of course but open office would be perfectly fine as a temporary stand in, thank you!

Did you check the black friday sale? They might have a discount on iWork, not sure though I'm in the US and the sale hasn't started.

I did, the education discount is a whole $1 lol, but it's of little consequence I certainly won't be buying before Christmas. I need to do a bit more saving

If you're wondering on Black Friday sales, Best Buy is giving away a free $125 gift card with purchase of a 21.5" iMac. Technically, with the gift card it's the same amount as a refurbished and it's NEW.
Plus, use the $125 toward iWork, etc.. BAM. Now you got yourself a good deal.

Gently pokes the part that says -Aussie- and -buying after Christmas-, thank you though, if I lived in the US it would certainly be a good deal :)

Must certainly look into official resellers though.

Ah, gotcha. Well nonetheless, happy hunting! Hope you get what you want.

Thank you, a quick scan of eBay Aus brought up iWork 09 for $35, so looks like that is going to be a good option :) Should be able to get the whole lot for under $1500 now which should be within my budget :)

Thank you so much for all the help guys :)

Lol sure... but don't they all look the same lol :) And that means I'd have to clear my desk  At least I think there's a desk under here somewhere

It'll be a while before I buy, but I'll certainly post some pics :)
