Question about Refurbished Macs

I looking into buying a 24" iMac but don't want pay that much for a computer. I checked out the refurbished section on Apples site and saw that the 24's were offered at better discount than the 20's. Can somebody tell me why?

Has anyone had any problems with refurbished macs?
 
Got a refurb 20'' in May, and it's impossible to tell the difference between it and a new one. You get everything you would get as if you bought new. I don't think I will ever buy new again because of how much you save. Also I'm not sure on this, but I think refurbs are inspected more closely than new ones to make sure it does not come back again.
 
I'm guessing this might help answer your questions.

I'm guessing the answer to #1 is that they are older models. The answer to #2 will clearly vary, however I understand that they are indistinguishable from brand new.
 
1 20" iMac and 2 refurbed macbooks has convinced me its the only way to buy. The latest macbook did have problems right out of the box, had to be sent back and replaced, but that still wouldnt change my opinion about buying refurbished.
 
I bought a 24" 2.4Ghz refurbished iMac for $1299 about 2 weeks ago to replace my wife's eMac, and I'm extremely happy. It is literally indistinguishable from new.

It even came with a $100 rebate on a printer, just like a new iMac. I picked up the Canon Pixma iP4500 for free! It was the easiest rebate I've ever done in my life. Filled out a web page, didn't have to cut out UPCs or mail in receipts, etc.. The check was here about ONE WEEK later!

Looking at these three, the first one has a deeper discount because it is the older gen model with less RAM included (1GB vs 2GB standard on current gen) and different processor type

The current gen is based off Motevina platform which has FSB of 1066 whereas the previous gen has FSB of 800
 
Just look at the specs. Got my daughter an iMac 20" 2.4GHz for 994.00 and I saved over 300 bucks compared to it's original price as presented. There ARE some deals there.

Are there multiples of each item in the refurbished section or is it "what you see is what you get"? Like the older model 24" iMac... are there many of them or is there just one, and if it gets sold I'll have to wait for another one.

Also, how often and what time is the refurbished section updated?

I think I may wait til after Oct. 14 to see if the price goes down even more? Does Apple do price adjustments on refurbished items?

They never really say how man items are on each model... if it's gone then it's gone and you have to wait for it to be replenished...
 
I'm thinking of purchasing the imac 24" 2.8ghz refurb

I was thinking getting the 20" Imac, brand new...
 
The $250 difference for the 2.4Ghz w/1GB config versus the 2.8Ghz w/2GB didn't seem worth it to me. The 2GB in the 2.8Ghz system is two 1GB modules, so I'd have to discard one or more of them anyways to bump up the memory.

I used $60 of the $250 I saved on two 2GB modules to max the system out to 4GB of ram. I didn't think I'd notice the 400Mhz speed difference - the remaining $190 can be spent better elsewhere :)

Did the same except just added a 2gb stick for 3gb total. Coudn't justify the extra $ for .4 ghz
