I recently bought an Apple TV 2 from Amazon but I am having problems with it not waking up from sleep so I need to bring it to the Apple store to get it exchanged.

My questions -

- Do I have to print some kind of invoice from Amazon showing when I bought the device? Do they require proof that I actually own this thing?

- How easy will it be to exchange for a new one? Will the 'genius' waste my time trying to recreate the issue at the store or will they just give me a new one without asking too many questions?

TIA!

If you bought it from Amazon then why not go through Amazon for the exchange?

It is just more convenient for me to go to the Apple store which is 20 mins away and come back with a new one than having to deal with Amazon and all the hassles of shipping it back and waiting many days for a replacement.

Why didn't you buy it from the Apple store in the 1st place then?

Anyway, isn't the ATV under a year old anyway, plus surely Apple can tell via serial?

Having said that I had an iPhone repair booked once at an Apple store for a phone that was 51 weeks old, but the Apple "Genius" insisted it was 18 months old and out of warranty.

I showed him the receipt (O2 store) showing the date of purchase and the serial number and he then tried to fob me off telling me I had to ring AppleCare to get it amended then make another appointment.

Errr-I don't think so.

I have a receipt showing proof of purchase and age and I actually don't care what your systems say, I have the legal documentation to support my claim there and then.

He then realised he had nowhere else to go, gave in and replaced the phone.. :D

I agree, its best to purchase devices from local stores than over the internet..

my 2

no receipt needed

I had an issue with my AppleTV remote that i purchased at Microcenter, i took it to an apple store and they exchanged both the appletv itself(even though there was nothing wrong with it) and the remote without me having any kind of paperwork or the original box or cords. They just opened up a new one, and gave me the appletv and remote from it and said have a nice day.

ATV2 hasn't been out for a year though, so they know there's none out there that are out of warranty due to age..
