Question about saving Photos to iCloud

Essentially what I'm trying to do is clear the photos off my Camera Roll without risking losing them.

I have a 16gb phone so I'm sure you all can relate on how quickly it fills up. I have a 200gb iCloud storage account.

I want to put the photos from the Camera Roll > to iCloud Storage

Is this possible? Do I risk losing photos?

It isn't with iOS 7. The preview of iOS 8 that was on Apple's site last week made it look likely that it will be possible when that is released next week. The currently posted preview on Apple's site is less clear.

Yeah I want to do the same thing (or to be able to help other iOS users do this. Photos are the number one pain point on their devices).

So, iOS 8 only?
