I'm planning on getting the new apple tv, and want to be able to stream my movies from my macbook pro. Will I be able to stream them when the mac is in sleep mode (lid closed) or does it have to be awake?
It does have to be awake, as only the RAM is powered during sleep and the movies are stored on the HDD, which needs to be spinning to be able to play movies stored on it.
It SHOULD wake it up and stream whatever was requested from the ATV, however I find wake on network access to be flaky at best. Give it a try and google around, see what you can find![]()
Does wake on access work if you don't have a time capsule/airport express?
Should do.
So I can have my laptop on sleep (lid closed) and still stream to the new apple TV using snow leopard's 'wake for network access' feature?
It's possible.. If not, then just install InsomniaX and close the lid![]()
