Question about Temperatures and Fan Speeds

When playing Farmville in Safari the fans on my Macbook Air 13" 2.13 ramp up to 5500 RPM and the temp rises to about 87* C very quickly. I can't seem to remember this happening with my Macbook Pro but does this seem normal for this computer? Thanks all.

It depends on a lot of things. 87C is not too hot though. Check your activity monitor. Is your MBA well ventilated?

Wow. I checked it and itunes is using 100% of the processor. Trying to figure why

Is this Farmville thing flash?

I'm sure Farmville is flash. When iTunes is syncing to a device, or playing a video it uses more processing power. There are many other reasons as well.

If it is flash, I'd suggest you make sure you're running the latest version. Maybe even perhaps install the release candidate of 10.2

If that doesn't work come back and I we'll keep troubleshooting.

Ok, I was on the phone with apple for a long time. Here is the problem as I have narrowed it down. On some flash pages such as Farmville on Facebook and PopCap Games (these were two I could find) either the flash plugin or Safari itself is running 100+% of the CPU according to the System Monitor. When on Hulu's home page no problem.

Apple had me due a list of things including reinstall flash player plugin for Safari Version 10.1 and reinstall Snow Leopard. No change. On certain websites either the plugin or Safari itself will ramp up above 100% of the processor. Apparently itunes has nothing to do with it as I had originally thought

They are now claiming a hardware problem and that i should take it to a Genius Bar. Any thoughts?

My wife's 11.6 Air does the same thing on the same websites. So, not a hardware problem I would say

87C for a C2D is pretty hot actually. It will throttle at that temperature.

As far as this not happening to the MBP, well... It probably didn't. There is a cost to having a laptop this thin, just as well, there are certain benefits to having bulkier laptops such as more cooling material and the ability to use larger fans that spin slower and hence are quieter.

Ahh I stand corrected. Forgot it was a C2D. I would bring it into the store especially if a reinstall didn't solve the issue

What I'm wondering is this. My wife's 11.6 Air does exactly the same thing so what are the odds we both have a bad computer? Has anyone else with an Air experienced this on some Flash sites?

As someone posted earlier install the 10.2 version of flash player as this offloads some of the work for the CPU to the GPU
