Hi everyone. I have a factory unlocked iphone 3gs running 3.1.2 from Hong Kong. It came with the 3.1.2 fw. I tried jailbreaking with PT on my Mac with no success. Tried about 10 times. Finally worked with Blackra1n. Now, I am figuring that my phone is one with the updated boot right now. No big deal I guess. My question is does anybody have any insight as to if or when an untethered jailbreak may come out for this boot. It doesn't bother me too much because I only use Cydia when I'm at home with my computer, but I would like to not worry about tethering it when it dies. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

3GS jailbreaks are not a tethered jailbreak. Only 3g Ipod touches. I have a jailbroken 3gs at 3.1.2 and have no issues powering off and on.

Thanks for the reply. I tried jailbreaking with PT but every time I installed my custom ipsw the computer said phone was in recovery mode and I had to restore. I tried to get it out of recovery but always ended up restoring. I also got the 1600 and 1604 errors a couple of times. I followed the instructions to a T and still no luck. I then jailbroke with blackrain and it worked the very first time. Do you have any clue what I may have done wrong. I have a 32g 3gs factory unlocked rinning 3.1.2 and I have a macbook running snow leopard. I do know that blackrain will jailbreak any iphone oob running 3.1.2 so I figured that since it worked and PT didn't that I have the new bootloader. Also, my phone is a week 42. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If the OP has a 3GS newer than the 40th week of 2009 it has the new bootrom which, for now, requires a tethered jailbreak.

As far as if that will change in the future, my crystal ball is in the shop being repaired.
