can you use a SD card as extra storage on the ipad when its hooked up via the camera kit?

Could i buy a large SD card and load it up full of movies and then play them on the ipad ?

Kind of. iTunes movies have to be synced from movies. If you have movies in the correct format without copyright on them...like say movies you made in handbrake...you should be able to keep them on the sd card.

I believe when you want to watch one you would need to transfer it from sd to ipad and then when you are done you can delete it. I haven't tried this yet it is based off of something that I read. I'm too impatient to wait for the kit.

Yes, you can load movies if they are in a format iPad likes, like MP4. You can't move them to your video app though, you have to watch them from the photos app. You can't view anything off an SD card other than thumbnails of the photos or video on the card for transfer. You can delete anything on your iPad that was transfered via the camera kit.

Just to add...the names of the movies don't come through (just length, date/time) so it is a bit of a guessing game if you have a bunch of movies on an SD card as to which one is which. It is not ideal but it does work in a pinch...I hope Apple updates the software at some point to make it more user-friendly.

Hey just out of curiosity about how long would it take a movie (say about 1 gig) to transfer from the sd card to the ipad for viewing?
